Sights and sounds of the Napa Chamber

I’ve decided to engage my readers with a menu of small items that better share a sneak peek into my world as president/CEO of the chamber. Call it my personal homage to Mick Salyer of ZuZu and newly opened La Taberna — “tapas style” chamber news and notes. Hope you enjoy!

Thank you, past Napa chamber chairs, for the chamber history lesson over our breakfast at La Toque. We had 21 past members representing 65 years of chamber leadership in spirited discussion. Their dedication to this historic community organization was on full display and provided an enormous amount of inspiration to ensure that they all continue to be proud members and supporters. By the way, Chamber Chair Ken Frank makes the best buffet-style scrambled eggs on the planet.

Had my first Napa Valley Film Festival experience last week when I attended the gala at the former Copia. Lots of glitz and glamour, and even a celebrity sighting. Kevin Costner waltzed in right behind me. Not the “starstruck” type but admit he’s made some very good sports movies. His “Tin Cup” character is one of my favorites. Reminds me of a former college friend, Marco Dawson. Marco was part of a trio that included Lee Janzen and Rocco Mediate that led the Florida Southern College golf team to two NCAA National Championships in four years. All went on to enjoy great success on the PGA Tour.

Met with all the Napa County Chamber execs last week for the first time since landing in my new role: James Cooper (American Canyon), Cindy Saucerman (Yountville), Chris Canning (Calistoga) and Pam Simpson (St. Helena). Pam treated us all to dinner and drinks at the new Farmer and the Fox restaurant – which also happens to be a Napa Chamber member. Thank you, Pam and Farmer and the Fox.

Ladies, if you haven’t had a chance to get to Boho Lifestyle, which has a new location on Second Street, please do so. Owner Indra Fortney was kind enough to help me surprise my wife for her 20th consecutive 23rd birthday — at the store. The ladies had a great time … shopping! My good friend Kristi Leamer and I may need to think things through a little better next time.

Thank you for your nominations for the 2014 annual meeting and lunch. We’ve surpassed last year’s nomination totals and are looking forward to a great event. Mark you calendars: Jan. 23 at the Westin Verasa. Have an unofficial commitment for KTVU Channel 2 sports anchor — and Napa resident — Mark Ibanez to serve as emcee for the festivities.

I promise to get to the Register to have my photo taken before my next column appears and would love to hear your feedback on this column format. Thank you for taking the time to connect and engage with the chamber.
