The Napa Chamber of Commerce recently announced the formation of a partnership with Mechanics Bank that will set the stage for the organization to reignite its local community outreach efforts, while also demonstrating the banks continued commitment to Napa’s small businesses and nonprofits. Mechanics Bank CEO Christa Steele was enthusiastic in her support of the idea, and didn’t hesitate at the chance to provide local assistance. “The idea for the Community Leader Alliance all started with a brainstorm session between Travis Stanley and me shortly following the Napa earthquake,” said Steele. “We wanted to find a way to help those who serve the...

Leads Over Lunch: I just returned from the best Leads Over Lunch program that I’ve attended since arriving last July. An all-time high of 44 attendees were at the event, which featured a five-minute presentation by David Williams and Jill Altman of Community First Credit Union. They just opened a new branch at 2375 California Blvd. It’s situated right between Little Caesars and Subway, so it makes it really easy to get dough before you “get your dough.” Sorry about that but I couldn’t resist. Thank you Nicholas: I was very humbled by the opportunity to finally meet Nicholas Dillon at the...

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) today received permission from state regulators to offer electric customers a new clean energy program that will provide up to 100 percent solar power for a modest cost premium each month. PG&E expects to start enrolling customers in the fourth quarter of this year. "Our green option is all about giving customers the power to choose and about bringing the benefits of solar to our communities. Our customers already enjoy some of the cleanest power in the United States, but we want to help them do even more to support clean energy and the green...

As a member of the Napa Chamber of Commerce for more than 65 years, PG&E is one of many long-standing local businesses in the Napa Valley community. In 2014, that partnership evolved when a 6.0 earthquake hit Napa residents on Aug. 24. Over the next few days, PG&E crews worked tirelessly to restore power, repair gas leaks and ensure the entire Napa community received safe and reliable gas and electric service. On Friday (Jan. 23), the Napa Chamber of Commerce recognized PG&E for its unprecedented response during the earthquake with its Large Business of the Year Award. Among more than 200...

Last Friday was my first annual awards and luncheon as Napa Chamber president and CEO. The event was important to me for many reasons – it was the first one I have attended in my new position and my first opportunity to put my stamp on an event and to showcase the direction of the Chamber. It was also bittersweet, because we said goodbye to many of the board members who hired me and also welcomed many new ones. I was delighted to welcome Ken Frank to a second term as board chair as he has been key to the Chamber’s...

Incoming and outgoing board members … I’d like to take a moment to send my sincerest “thank you” to all the outgoing members of the Chamber board of directors: Walter Collins (Pacific Union College), Sandra Elles (Napa County Farm Bureau), Elizabeth Healy (The Doctors Company), Suzanne Shiff (Napa Valley Coalition of Nonprofit Agencies), Rex Stults (Napa Valley Vintners), Patrick Sweeney (Napa Unified School District) and Cindy Webber (Napa Valley Register). Rex, Elizabeth and Walter were all members of the CEO search committee. I wanted to again say “thank you” for providing me with the opportunity and the challenge of leading the Napa...

I wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a joyous, healthy, safe and happy holiday season. I’m looking forward to turning the page on 2014 to see what the new year has in store for us all. Our annual meeting and lunch takes place on Jan. 23 at the Westin Verasa, and I’m hoping to provide a glimpse into what the Chamber has been up to since I landed here in June. In addition to honoring the Citizen of the Year, Small and Large Business of the Year, Ambassador of the Year and Service Person of the Year, the event...

I had a chance to visit Family Service of Napa Valley last week. I’d heard great things about the organization and the valuable services it provides, but it was very insightful to get a firsthand account from Executive Director Rob Weiss and Clinical Director Marti Palmer. I was the invited guest of board VP Elizabeth Healy (the Doctors Co.), who also serves on the Napa Chamber board and Legislative Action Committee, and met board president Kathryn Winter. Like other Napa nonprofits I’ve visited, they receive strong support from a great staff and engaged board of directors. There was also a very cool...
