Jan 9, 2018   My New Year did not get off to the start I was hoping for. As I was getting ready to get back to the office that Tuesday morning following the holiday, I received word that Troy Pelzl, managing partner/vice president of Jimmy Vasser Toyota/Chevrolet had suddenly and unexpectedly passed away that weekend. I’m sure many members of our community never had the pleasure to meet Troy personally, as he moved to Napa from Walnut Creek approximately two years ago. He came because the Vasser family picked him to help them stake claim as “Napa’s Choice” for local new and used car...

We are touched by the love and support shown for the Napa and Sonoma area following the recent fires that are nearly contained. Our trains are running, and our vineyard and winery partners are open as most of the valley remains untouched by the fires. We are thankful and grateful for the "Heroes and Helpers" that stepped forward during this challenging, and for some, devastating time. From neighbors,...

I’ll begin with full disclosure by pointing out the fact that Ken Frank, owner/chef of La Toque restaurant at the Westin Verasa, is the chairman of the Napa Chamber of Commerce (NCC) board of directors. He is currently serving his second term in that role, and helped lead the search committee that ultimately resulted in me being hired to my current leadership position with NCC. I met Ken in 2010 when he agreed to be a chef participant in a Golden State Warriors food and wine event called “Nibbles, Dribbles and Sips.” I was responsible for not only creating this event,...

Membership appreciation party update: Forno Piombo, a Napa Valley-born company that builds handmade pizza ovens, will join us at Kennedy Park on Saturday, July 18, making pizza and showcasing their fast-growing business for Napa Chamber of Commerce members. Father-and-son team Guy and Tony Piombo’s ovens can be found in restaurants, wineries and homes throughout the valley. Check out their story at FornoPiombo.com. Labor law and Leads Over Lunch: Thank you members who helped create the recent buzz surrounding these two important NCC programs. Two consecutive sold-out labor law events in Napa and Calistoga, and a near-capacity audience in American Canyon, helped...

Think about this for a second: every person in the world with access to the Internet is a potential customer for your business, no matter how big or small. Sounds a little intimidating when you think about it, but it’s true. Now think about the competition that exists for those virtual customers. It’s pretty daunting, to say the least. Now take that same scenario and apply it to the thousands of businesses competing for customers – both visiting and local—here in the Napa Valley. These customers are taking identical steps to search the web for best available options before deciding to...
