Local businesses to benefit by community involvement: With buttons
blazing and super heroes as mascots, the message of the Napa Chamber’s
new community campaign is that we’ve all got the ability to help our
own businesses survive the recession and possibly even thrive.
“It’s about thinking before you drive out of town to shop for
things that, in fact, do exist right here in Napa,” said 2009 chairman
of the board Mike Silvas. “Making an effort to spend our money locally
can really pay off for all of us,” he added.
The
Chamber is encouraging residents to visit the many businesses
distributing the eye-catching red, white and blue buttons that proudly
proclaim “I’ve Got the Power To Save Our Economy.” By simply requesting
to receive the free “badge of honor,” the resident will also be able to
fill out a simple entry form to be placed into the weekly prize
drawing. Additional chances to win can be obtained if the person is
spotted wearing their button by one of the Chamber’s “secret agents.”
The prizes are being donated by local businesses. The first week’s
winner will receive a $100 gift card donated by a local bank that can
be used anywhere in town.
Radio commercials touting the benefits of doing business with local
firms, purchasing from in-town establishments and reducing on-line
usage when shopping will be running throughout the upcoming months.
Local magazines, newspaper and even window displays will continually
remind residents that they’ve “Got the Power” to help the economy grow.
The campaign is one segment of the economic development efforts being
encouraged by the City of Napa to aid existing businesses in this time
of economic downturn. “Anything that reminds people that their buying
decisions are truly important to their own quality of life is
important,” said Chamber president and CEO Kate King.
To get your own power button, visit nearly any downtown merchant,
bank, credit union, gym and, of course, the Chamber office and ask.
Wear your button proudly and remember, “You’ve Got the Power” so use it
wisely!
