Green and Sustainable Practices Committee Notes
03/03/2010
Present: TR Vierra, Jeri Gill, Nelson Brady, Gloria Maese, Carlos Espino, Lou Penning, Andre, Kathleen Chasey, Cathy Wastall, John Franco, Caryl Chakerian
TR made introductions and reported on her meeting with Jeri Gill and Lisa Batto about how GaSP interfaces with other Chamber Committees and opportunities to add sustainability to those agendas. As a starting point, immediately GaSP programming will go our on the monthly Chamber e-hot sheet. There is also a need for web content material so any committee members are encouraged to forward material to TR.
John Franco is taking on an email green calendar project so we don’t have to take inordinate amount of committee time going over current events. Look for it in your in-box. TR suggested adopting the First Friday Business Lunch idea of a business card drawing to give a 10 minute presentation at the next GaSP meeting in place of the calendaring time usually spent each month.
FEATURED SPEAKER: Nelson Braby of Real Goods Solar.
Nelson conducted a presentation on the values of going solar for energy sustainability.. Of particular note is the documented rate of increases from PG&E over the past 5 years; something that can go along way towards justifying the initial outlay of installing a solar energy system for your home. Also in the arena of facts and figures; the USA absorbs enough solar energy in a year to equal 4.25 Quadrillion barrels of oil, and we are far behind many European countries in harvesting it. Please also see the attached Real Goods Solar customer referral program details.
